You can take part in a variety of club events throughout the year, from monthly meetings to large-scale shows and hands-on experiences that bring the community together.

Monthly Club Meetings

The fourth Tuesday of each month is dedicated to club meetings, where you can attend educational presentations and stay updated on club activities and decisions. These meetings are a key part of staying involved and connected.

Community Involvement & Outreach

The club has supported the Eastern Washington University Geology program for over 40 years, helping fund undergraduate fieldwork through scholarships. You’ll also see the club working with youth groups such as the Boy and Girl Scouts of America, offering opportunities to learn about lapidary arts through hands-on shop experiences.

Annual Gem & Mineral Show

The annual Gem and Mineral Show is the club’s primary fundraiser and a long-standing tradition. What began in 1959 has grown into a major event featuring 45 to 50 vendors each year.

You’ll find a wide range of offerings, including rough rock, slabs, gemstones, minerals, custom jewelry, beads, carvings, and more—giving you plenty of opportunities to find something unique.

What Happens During the Show

  • Live demonstrations of lapidary techniques, including faceting and cabochon making
  • Occasional demonstrations in beading and wire wrapping
  • A silent auction featuring agate, jasper, petrified wood, and other mineral materials
  • Family-friendly activities such as treasure digs, games, and tumbled rock grab bags
  • Educational display cases showcasing minerals, fossils, carvings, and handcrafted jewelry
  • A blacklight mineral display highlighting UV-reactive specimens
  • An educational booth hosted by the Eastern Washington University Geology Club
